Refunds & Cancellation
Last updated: June 4, 2026
PortBay Pro is a monthly subscription (currently US$10/month) sold through Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Paddle handles payment, taxes, invoicing, and refund processing; your purchase contract for the transaction is with Paddle under its buyer terms. This page explains how cancellation and refunds work in plain language.
New subscriptions include a 7-day free trial: you aren’t charged until the trial ends, and cancelling during the trial costs nothing.
Cancelling is as easy as subscribing
- Sign in at portbay.app/account and choose Manage billing, then cancel from the Paddle portal that opens, or
- In the PortBay app, open Settings → Account → Billing and choose Cancel subscription (or Manage billing for payment methods and invoices), or
- use the subscription-management link in any Paddle receipt email (sent at purchase and at every renewal), or
- email [email protected]from your account email and we’ll cancel it for you.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you’ve already paid for: Pro stays active until then, no further charges are made, and your local projects are never touched. There is no cancellation fee, no phone call, and no retention hoop.
Renewal notice
The subscription renews automatically each monthat the then-current price unless you cancel first. Paddle emails a receipt for every charge; we’ll notify you ahead of any price increase.
EU/EEA & UK consumers — 14-day right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA or UK, you have a statutory right to withdraw from the purchase within 14 days without giving a reason (Consumer Rights Directive, Art. 9). Because Pro is a digital service that activates immediately at checkout, you expressly consent at purchase to performance beginning right away; withdrawing within the 14-day window still entitles you to a refund as described below.
Refunds
- First purchase: request a refund within 14 daysof buying Pro and you’ll receive it in full.
- Renewals:if a renewal charge surprises you, contact us within 14 days of the charge and we’ll refund it and cancel the subscription.
- Outside those windows: email us anyway — refund requests are handled case by case through Paddle.
To request a refund, reply to your Paddle receipt email or write to [email protected] with the email you purchased under. Refunds are issued by Paddle to the original payment method. A refunded purchase revokes the Pro entitlement; everything already on your machine — your projects and the open-source app itself — keeps working.
Nothing here limits your statutory rights
This policy adds to, and never reduces, the rights consumer-protection law gives you in your country of residence. See also the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Account and billing questions
Is there a PortBay account I log into on the web?
Yes, at portbay.app/account. Sign in with GitHub or an emailed link and you can see your plan, change your payment method, download invoices, remove a device or cancel. It is the same account as the desktop app. The session lasts fifteen minutes and does not carry to a new tab, because a browser has nowhere safe to keep a longer one.
How do I cancel PortBay Pro?
Four ways, all equivalent. Sign in at portbay.app/account and choose Manage billing, then Cancel. In the app, open Settings → Account → Billing and choose Cancel subscription. Or use the subscription-management link in any Paddle receipt email. Or email [email protected] from your account address and we will cancel it for you. Pro stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, and there is no cancellation fee.
Where do I change my card or download an invoice?
Both live in the Paddle billing portal. Sign in at portbay.app/account and choose Manage billing, open it from the PortBay app at Settings → Account → Billing → Manage billing, or use the subscription-management link in any Paddle receipt. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for PortBay, so it holds the payment method and issues the invoices.
Why do I have to sign in before the billing portal opens?
Because a billing portal link belongs to one customer and expires shortly after it is created. No link printed on a page could be yours. Signing in lets the account page ask Paddle for your link at the moment you click it, which is the same thing the desktop app does.
How do I upgrade to PortBay Pro?
Two routes to the same Paddle checkout. Sign in at portbay.app/account and choose Upgrade to Pro, or open PortBay → Settings → Account and choose “Get Pro — $10/mo”. The subscription starts with a 7-day free trial. If you would rather read the plans first, the pricing page lists what Pro removes from the Community ceilings.
I clicked “Upgrade plan” in the WordPress plugin. Is this the same thing?
Not quite. The WordPress plugin is licensed per site with a key you activate on its own Status screen in wp-admin, and it is separate from the Mac app's Pro subscription — so nothing on this page or the pricing page activates it. The plugin's editor keeps working in full without a licence. Email [email protected] and we will sort out a site key with you.
I bought Pro but the app still shows Community. What now?
Open Settings → Account and choose “Refresh my license” — the entitlement is granted a moment after checkout completes and the app picks it up on refresh. If it still does not appear, email [email protected] with the address you purchased under.
