Free for six projects. $10 after that.
The Community plan is the full product, free and open source — the agent task board, runtimes, databases, HTTPS and tunnels. Pro removes the ceilings: unlimited projects, 250 MB attachments, your own domains and tunnels, and SSH links that hold.

7-day free trial. Buy here or in the app — either way it is the same account, so the licence is already there when you sign in on your Mac. Paddle handles checkout.
Laravel Herd charges $99 a year for databases, mail capture and services; PortBay ships those in the free tier. ServBay charges $9.90 a month with a 5-site free cap; PortBay Community costs nothing for six projects. Docker Pro is $9 a month on annual billing and still runs your sites in a VM; PortBay runs them native. Pro’s $10 buys the ceilings: unlimited projects, 250 MB attachments, tunnels that hold, and sync across two Macs.
Pro is bought inside the app (PortBay → Settings → Account) and billed monthly through Paddle, our Merchant of Record, after a 7-day free trial. Cancel anytime — Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Contributors skip the bill: a merged qualifying pull request or a qualifying GitHub sponsorship earns a perpetual Pro license. EU & UK buyers have a 14-day right of withdrawal; see the refund policy.

Licensing, in plain terms
Don’t see your question answered here? The docs go deeper — every feature, flag and failure mode.
Read the docsNo, and holding one says nothing about the other. PortBay Pro is a monthly subscription for the desktop app and follows the person. A plugin licence is annual, follows the website, and is activated with a key you paste into wp-admin. Buying one does not grant the other.
Paste the key into the plugin's own screen in wp-admin. The site activates against your account and appears in your Licences list at portbay.app/account, where you can deactivate it again whenever you want.
No. Staging, local and development installs are recognised and do not consume a site — .local and .test domains, localhost, private network addresses, and the staging subdomains of the major hosts. Charging you to test a rebuild would be charging you to do the work properly.
Nothing you have to do. The activation is identified by an id stored in the install, not only by the URL, so the same install arriving on a new domain updates in place instead of taking a second site.
Yes. Deactivate the site from your Licences list and the slot frees immediately, then activate the new one. There is no cooling-off period and no limit on how often you do it.
Credits meter what the in-editor agent does: describing a change and having the agent make it spends credits, editing by hand does not. The exact rate is published before the plugin ships, and your balance and the date it refills are both shown in your account.
The monthly pool does not — it refills at the same size every month, so a quiet month does not bank credit for a busy one. Credits you buy as a top-up are different: those do not expire while the licence is active, and they are only spent once the month's pool is gone.
Per licence, shared across every site on it. An agency should not discover that the one site it is actively rebuilding ran dry while twenty idle sites hold credits nobody is using.
The agent stops until the pool refills, and the editor carries on working normally — running out of credits never locks you out of your own site. If you need more before then, a top-up is a one-time purchase, not a second subscription.
No. The agent is the product, not a wrapper around a key you supply, and the credit pool is how it is paid for.
A licence is attached to a website, which is a multi-year thing. Monthly billing means a failed card takes a client's site features offline mid-month, and that failure lands on your customer rather than on you. The agent bundle does offer month-to-month, at a premium.
Launch pricing renews higher, and both numbers are printed on every card above rather than left to be discovered at renewal. The plugin licences renew at the price you paid.
Paddle, as Merchant of Record, the same as everything else PortBay sells. They handle tax, invoicing and refunds, and your card details never reach us.
Any time, from your account. The licence stays active until the end of the term you have paid for, sites keep working until then, and there is no cancellation fee. EU and UK buyers also have a 14-day right of withdrawal.
What the price actually buys
Three things the table below states and cannot show: what the free tier already contains, what Pro removes rather than adds, and the route that skips the bill entirely.

Databases, trusted HTTPS on .test domains, captured mail and public tunnels are in the Community plan. Not a trial of them — the same code Pro runs.
Every part is already in the free tier. What $10 changes is how far each one goes: unlimited projects, 250 MB attachments, and one licence across two Macs.
A merged qualifying pull request or a qualifying GitHub sponsorship earns a perpetual Pro licence. No card, no renewal, no expiry.
Exactly what $10 buys
No asterisks. This table mirrors the entitlement rules built into the app itself — Community is the everyday product, Pro removes the ceilings.
Pricing, in plain terms
Don’t see your question answered here? The docs go deeper — every feature, flag and failure mode.
Read the docsYes. The Community plan is the full everyday product — the agent task board, HTTPS on .test domains, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, mail capture, public Cloudflare tunnels and SSH tunnels. It runs up to 6 projects with a free account (3 without one), forever. Not a trial.
Pro is $10/month and removes the Community plan's ceilings: unlimited projects and sandboxed runs, 250 MB task attachments (up from 10 MB), a custom domain suffix, your own stable Cloudflare tunnel hostname, per-project CORS policies, hardened SSH tunnels (keep-alive, auto-reconnect, reverse tunnels, SOCKS proxy and multi-hop), sync across two Macs, encrypted in transit and at rest, plus early access and priority support.
Inside the app: open PortBay → Settings → Account and choose “Get Pro — $10/mo”. The subscription starts with a 7-day free trial, and cancelling during the trial costs nothing. Checkout is handled by Paddle, our Merchant of Record, so your payment details never touch our servers.
Yes, two ways. A merged qualifying pull request to PortBay earns a perpetual Pro license on your GitHub account, issued when the PR lands. A qualifying GitHub sponsorship earns the same license. Neither renews or expires. The $10/month subscription exists for people who would rather pay than contribute.
You can cancel anytime and Pro stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, with no further charges. After that the Community plan re-applies its 6-project cap — nothing else changes.
If you are in the EU or UK you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the first purchase, no reason required. See the refund policy at portbay.app/refund for the details and how to request one.
No. The task board you share with your AI agents ships in the Community plan. You bring the agents you already have installed — Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor or Antigravity — and PortBay dispatches them locally.

Give your projects and your agents a real local home.
